Liana Lowenstein workshops Feb 2015
Don’t miss a unique training opportunity with internationally acclaimed speaker
Liana Lowenstein, MSW
Two workshops - February 2015
Brisbane, Canberra, and Melbourne
Workshop 1: Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Families
This very practical training will present creative engagement, assessment, and treatment
interventions to make individual, group, and family sessions meaningful and effective. Innovative
treatment activities will be presented to address issues such as anger management, social skills,
stress reduction, and self-esteem. Creative parenting strategies will also be highlighted.
Participants will come away with many new and creative techniques for use with clients from
preschoolers to teens.
Learning Objectives:
Use at least 3 interventions to engage clients in counseling.
Apply an innovative model for assessing children and families.
Use innovative therapeutic games, art activities, and stories in individual, group, and
family sessions.
Workshop 2: Creative Interventions for Children Coping with
Bereavement and Divorce
When children enter therapy because they have experienced the death of a loved one, or their
parents have separated or divorced, they are at a very vulnerable time in their lives. They are
often anxious about the therapeutic process and reluctant to talk directly about difficult issues.
Activities that are creative and play-based can engage children and help them to express their
thoughts and feelings. This workshop will present creative interventions to help children cope
with bereavement and divorce. This will include interventions to address normative and traumatic
grief and complex divorce cases. Since research highlights the importance of caregiver
involvement in children’s treatment, ideas for use with caregivers will be reviewed. Although the
focus of this workshop will be on grief and loss, many of the interventions can be adapted for use
with a wide variety of other treatment populations.
Learning Objectives:
Define grief, traumatic grief, and disenfranchised grief.
Articulate the continuum of parent-child relationships after separation and divorce.
Apply many new and innovative techniques to treat children coping with bereavement
and divorce.
