BEGINNERS LEVEL, GERMAN A1.1
1. Description:
Students acquire skills and abilities comprising correct pronunciation and intonation, formation
of simple, grammatically and semantically correct German sentences, and basic spelling rules.
Students work with texts at a basic level. They learn to make simple statements in everyday
situations both in written (forms, e-mails) and in oral form (introducing oneself, welcoming and
saying goodbye, apologizing, enquiring, agreeing and disagreeing, expressing likes and
dislikes).
Topics:
countries, alphabet, professions, marital status, family, languages, numbers, furniture, colours,
office, computer, leisure activities, times of the day and days of the week, seasons, months,
eating and drinking, travelling, daily routine.
Grammar:
definite and indefinite articles, gender of nouns, plural forms, cases of nouns (Nominative,
Accusative), possessive articles (Nominative and Accusative), personal pronouns (Nominative
and Accusative), conjugation of verbs in present tense, conjugation of modal verbs (können,
möchten, mögen, müssen), sentence structure of main clauses, questions with question-words,
yes-and-no- questions, negation (nicht, kein), separable verbs
2. Aims:
The course objectives correspond with the skills described for level A 1 (breakthrough) of the
CEF. The course aims at providing an intermediate level of German, enabling students to cope
with everyday communicative situations, mainly in a university setting, with simple language
means. It focuses on the development of oral communication skills.
3. Level:
a) Target group: foreign students without previous language knowledge
b) Placement-test T1: 0-45 points
4. Course material: Menschen A 1.1 (course- and workbook)
5. Examination prerequisites:
regular class attendance (at least 80%)
completion of self-study material
2 homework assignments in good quality
Your course instructor will inform you about further prerequisites.
6. Exam:
final test: 90 min
The test consits of a dictation, reading, vocabulary, grammar and writing section
